Story of the Year在1995年於美國聖路易斯成軍，
最早團名為67 North，
在1998年改為Big Blue Monkey，
爾後在2002年才正式更名為Story of the Year。

樂團成名始於2003年的專輯《Page Avenue》，
最高排名告示牌前兩百的第51名，
知名單曲"Until the day i die"在當時幾乎是EMO國歌，
在台灣也享有極高人氣，
來台兩次的表演我都有幸參與到。

SOTY從2003年到2011年都有持續發專輯與活動，
並在2011年2月宣布休團，
2013年開始重組並且進行了《Page Avenue》的十周年巡迴，
2014~2019年間僅發行了一張專輯《Wolves》，
並經歷了團員的更迭，
最後在2022年宣布被 SharpTone Records簽下，
並於2023年發布最新專輯《Tear Me to Piece》。

相較於同時期的EMO團，
SOTY一直是比較平衡的存在，
沒有The Used那種偏向SCREAMO的失控，
比起MCR或FOB更重的刷旋、節奏，
精緻的riff與主唱scream及clean嗓音完美的轉換，
都是其特色。

另外在早年他們也曾被譽為最喜歡轉吉他與前後滾翻的樂團，
其實蠻開心看到他們回歸的，
雖然自己在2005年的《In the Wake of Determination》就沒什麼關注他們，
但最近聽了最新專輯後，
覺得他們除了維持自己的風格外，
也加入了些許Metalcore的元素，
部分歌曲有更重的breakdown，
而主唱Dan Marsala的嘶吼轉換依舊讓人著迷。
