歌曲主要描述主唱John得知好友Sean自殺消息的一天，
Sean為樂團"I Killed The Prom Queen and Deez Nuts"的bass手。
Verse1中的歌詞suicide and sunshine也成為了專輯名稱。

關於這首歌John表示：
「我的目標是寫一首歌給Sean,
或是關於他、頌揚他，有鑑於他是個很棒的人，
但我不想寫得像是致敬他的歌曲，
因為我沒辦法用文字去總結一個人的一生，我並不想那樣做。
所以我決定誠實地寫下當天以及當下的感受和發生的事情。」
